Abstract

The key issues in organisations today have been linked with leadership effectiveness. Although much research has been done on leadership, little is known on what factors can lead Generation Y employees effectively. Leaders who are not practising the right leadership to lead this young group of employees in today’s workforce may cause leadership ineffectiveness in the future. With the limited knowledge of leading Generation Y employees effectively, it is necessary to study the superiors’ leadership effectiveness from the perspective of Generation Y employees in the Malaysian ICT companies. Hence, the objectives of this study are (1) to evaluate if the immediate superiors in Malaysian ICT companies are effective as perceived by Generation Y employees, (2) to determine the relationship between dimensions of servant leadership and leadership effectiveness as perceived by Generation Y employees in Malaysian ICT companies, (3) to determine the relationship between empathy and leadership effectiveness as perceived by Generation Y employees in Malaysian ICT companies, and (4) to determine the relationship between dimensions of positive psychological capital and leadership effectiveness as perceived by Generation Y employees in Malaysian ICT companies.
