Abstract
Alliance capabilities have been considered as a crucial factor in ensuring a sustainable and successful strategic alliance relationship. This is due to potential conflicts arising when two or more firms collaborate as both organizations would have a different work process and culture. Similar to university-industry R&D alliances, both organizations are from two different entities, and thus; alliance capabilities are required in ensuring them to achieve high R&D performance. Purpose – Based on the previous literature, alliance capabilities studies that emerged from year 1990s are focusing on firm-to-firm discussions. Although university-industry collaboration studies slowly surfaced by the year 2000s, in-depth research, particularly on alliance capabilities and its measurement, are still scarce. Henceforth, this study aims to develop the measurement items for alliance capabilities that can fit into the context of university-industry R&D alliances.
