Abstract

Despite widespread recognition among educators and employers of the need for digital literacy, little is known about the state of digital literacy among youths, especially in the local Malaysian context. The purpose of this study is to investigate the perception of creative multimedia final year students towards digital literacy and to identify how creative multimedia students developed and applies digital literacy in academic tasks. The research was conducted using both qualitative and quantitative methods. First, a focus group interview was conducted to obtain in-depth information on how creative multimedia students apply digital literacy in the academic task. In the second stage, the quantitative methodology was engaged through a survey in order to gather primary information about the digital literacy activities of students who are taking creative multimedia programs and to determine the level of digital literacy confidence that they possess.
