Abstract

To date, the media has largely associated cancer with death while often ignoring cases of cancer survival. This study entitled “Experience Sharing Portal For Cancer Survivors” is to understand the needs of a cancer survivor when he/she is still a patient. The positive outcome of cancer survival should be reported through media as a means to assist cancer patients in better facing the challenges ahead while offering them hope of survival. The purpose of this study is to examine the experience of cancer survivors, and understand their needs while they were patients of cancer. Accounts of their experiences and thoughts are documented in video form and published via a portal entitled ‘Share’. Maslow’s Theory of Needs is adopted as a conceptual framework for guiding the research particularly in framing the interview questions that focuses on exploring the basic and safety needs of cancer survivors which are the first three level discussed in Maslow’s Theory.
