Abstract

Campuses should be modeled in three dimensions to set the foundation for the creation of smart cities connected to smart campuses. Traditional virtual campus uses 2D plane maps and a photo map is unable to accommodate a variety of needs, such as student recruitment, public relations, campus wayfinding, and information management. It can be difficult for new teachers, students, and visitors to navigate a college or university campus. The buildings’ irregular layout makes it difficult to identify classrooms the first few times, and it can also be time-consuming to locate a certain faculty member. The study aims to use a 3D interactive university campus application for new first-year students, faculties, and visitors to promote at-a-glance and way-finding skills in the campus area. A design and development research approach were used on the target population to identify their needs through a survey. The result shows a positive response among students with campus wayfinding applications. The results can help users gain better experience on finding the ways in campus exploration, especially new students, as well as how to improve first-year students’ wayfinding abilities on campus by utilizing a better guide for the design of 3D interactive map for campus.
