Entrepreneurship research has put significant efforts into uncovering the impact individual entrepreneurs have on business performance. However, the question of “what creates quality entrepreneurs” remains less studied. In the context of agriculture entrepreneurs (agropreneurs), this study examines the relationship between entrepreneurship knowledge and entrepreneurial role models and the agropreneurs’ individual dynamic capabilities and individual entrepreneurial orientation. A total of 140 usable responses were collected from the agropreneurs attending the entrepreneurship training programmes organised by the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI). The samples were classified into four clusters based on the categories of high and low split-half scores of entrepreneurship knowledge and entrepreneurial role models. These clusters represent different combinations of the two factors among agropreneurs. The results of the statistical analysis using multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) show that entrepreneurship knowledge and entrepreneurial role models are critical in shaping the agropreneurs’ individual dynamic capabilities and individual entrepreneurial orientation. However, the effect is reduced to a minimal level in the absence of either one of them. Thus, agropreneurs need to acquire entrepreneurship knowledge through education and network with other successful entrepreneurs. The agencies involved should facilitate embedding more entrepreneurship knowledge in grooming the agropreneurs and having successful entrepreneurs share their experiences.
