MULTIMEDIA University (MMU) in Cyberjaya was established with the main aim of providing a steady supply of professionals in the highly-specialised areas of multimedia and information technology (IT) for companies operating in the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC). One such company is French telecommunications outfit Alcatel. The smart partnership between both parties started when Alcatel's chairman and chief executive officer Serge Tchuruk mooted his idea after attending the second International Advisory Panel (IAP) meeting in Cyberjaya. According to Alcatel (Institut de Formation d'Alcatel) IFA/Universiti Telekom's lecturer Benoit Vaillant, three students at postgraduate and undergraduate levels have become recipients of the scholarships. One of them is pursuing a doctorate degree in mathematics at a leading telecommunications university in France, while the other two are taking up a bachelors degree programme in telecommunications engineering at MMU, he said.
