Higher dropout and even failure rates for programming subjects have been observed across the years. The problem could be due to the conventional teaching approach that emphasises teacher-centred learning. Such passive teaching method has hindered learners from interacting with the context and therefore created a dull classroom learning experience. Game could be a tool in teaching programming subjects because of its characteristics and features that engages a user in its environment. In education, game has been integrated into learning activities to form innovative educational paradigm, which is known as game-based learning. In order to create a richer and interesting learning environment to the learners, a study to determine the contributing game design components towards the achievement of the learners learning outcomes was conducted.
