Abstract
Private label products have developed from being merely inexpensive substitutes to becoming important participants in the retail market. Although private label development in Malaysia is still in its infancy when compared to more developed Western markets, it is expected to grow in the future. The history, development, and strategic approaches of private labels are studied in this article, along with their impact on national brands and retailers. It also discusses the unique challenges faced by developing markets like Malaysia, how economic downturns impact private label growth, and how boosting the use of private labels could benefit Malaysian consumers as living expenses rise. It goes into great detail about how important consumer trust, branding strategies, and quality perception are becoming in encouraging the use of private labels. Private labels continue to evolve as a cost-effective option for consumers and a strategic tool for retailers seeking to differentiate themselves and remain strong in an increasingly competitive market.
