Abstract
The following practice-based interdisciplinary research has been conducted in Pakistan where due to lack of proper infrastructure or efficient alert systems for emergency vehicles, major losses of precious lives happen every other day. The research project is the development of a new, efficient and economical emergency vehicle alert system that operates through software defined radio and has the capability to let emergency vehicle drivers communicate with nearby drivers through their car’s radios to clear pathways for them to pass through. The research is divided into two methodological phases where the first one comprises of the systematic development of the emergency vehicle alert system device (EVAS) with autoethnography as the methodology where the researcher himself is the creator of the product. The data collection for this is done through personal experience whereas the data analysis occurred through introspection. The second methodology is regarding the socio-technological imaginaries or perceptions /predictions of relevant stakeholders and field experts as to whether the device is suitable for the environment where it is being launched, whether it is efficient and will be adopted or not. For this, the data was collected through semi-structured qualitative interviews by field experts and stakeholders after providing them with a demonstration of how EVAS operates. The data was then analyzed through thematic analysis and the results were obtained which indicated overall positive feedback with predictions regarding the efficiency of the emergency vehicle alert system prototype as positive. Results suggested that the prototype was effective, needed more advancements in future and is suitable for adoption and integration in the current emergency response system but legislation is necessary beforehand as there is a manipulation of radio frequencies involved.
