Abstract

Manufacturing supply chains are increasingly exposed to recurring disruptions that threaten operational continuity and sustainable performance. Although big data analytics capability (BDAC) is widely recognized as an enabler of supply chain resilience (SCRes), prior research has largely treated BDAC as an already existing capability rather than explaining how it is developed. Addressing this gap, this study shifts attention from the outcomes of BDAC to the formation of BDAC. Drawing on resource orchestration theory, we conceptualize BDAC as an orchestrated organizational capability formed through the alignment of analyticsrelated technological, human, cultural, and relational resources. These resources include data infrastructure, BDA staff capability, organizational data-driven culture, and information sharing with supply-chain partners. Using survey data from 213 large manufacturing firms, the study tests how these resources are associated with BDAC and how BDAC is related to SCRes. The findings show that BDAC formation depends on the coordinated orchestration of internal and external analytics-related resources, rather than on isolated technology investment. BDAC is also positively associated with SCRes. The study contributes to the literature by offering a cross-boundary explanation of BDAC formation and by showing how orchestrated analytics capability supports resilience in turbulent manufacturing environments.
