Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly transforming Project Management (PM) across various domains, particularly with advancements in Generative AI. However, uncertainty persists regarding the comprehensive integration of AI into PM practices. AI has the potential to empower project managers and organizations by enhancing project success rates and minimizing failures across all project phases. For instance, AI can proactively identify and mitigate potential project risks, ensuring smoother project execution. Despite its potential, there is a notable lack of research and established models for AI integration in project management. To bridge this gap, this research proposes an AI–PM Use Case Development Framework. Without a clear strategy and framework, progress may be hindered. This study explores this issue by presenting findings from the development of the AI–PM Use Case Development Framework, based on an expert panel session with a collaborating organization. The findings suggest key principles for framework development, including maintaining a clear business-focused purpose with use cases as tools, establishing robust end-to-end structures, embedding the 10 project management knowledge areas with the seven pillars of AI, and incorporating human-centered design to ensure tailored solutions. Additionally, the framework emphasizes use case adaptation for enhanced efficiency and sustainability. The insights from this study offer a proactive perspective that can be translated into practical solutions to advance project management practices through AI integration in both the short and long term. This research aims to provide useful recommendations that enable organizations to enhance performance by leveraging AI to optimize project management outcomes.
