Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic caused unprecedented disruptions to air traffic in the Asian region, with airlines and airports facing severe financial losses and operational challenges. This review explores the multifaceted impacts of the pandemic on air traffic volume, distinguishing between domestic and international routes, as well as the economic repercussions for the aviation industry. It also highlights the role of big data in managing fluctuating demand and optimizing operations through real-time analytics. The application of knowledge management systems is examined, emphasizing how these tools facilitated the coordination of crisis responses and regulatory compliance. As industry recovers, with domestic travel rebounding faster than international, big data and knowledge management will continue to play pivotal roles in enhancing operational efficiency and preparedness for future disruptions. This paper concludes with a discussion on the lessons learned and future strategies to build a more resilient and adaptive aviation industry in the post-pandemic world.
