Abstract

The adoption of diverse technologies and processes under Industry 4.0 holds the potential to revolutionize supply chain management, necessitating significant changes to existing practices. But it is crucial to understand that Industry 4.0 has an impact that goes beyond just producing things and could completely transform supply chain management. Hence, the purpose of this study is to investigate the perception of how Industry 4.0 affects supply chain management in Indian industry, with a focus on three areas, namely operation, decision making and adaptability. Data for this study was gathered conveniently through an online survey among supply chain workers from selected organisations representing various industries in India. With a dataset of 81 respondents, a descriptive and frequency analysis was conducted using SPSS version 29. The result from descriptive analysis demonstrates that most of the respondents perceived that IR 4.0 may have a minor to moderate impact on the adaptability of their SCM, followed by an impact on decision making and operation relatively. Supply chain managers should integrate Industry 4.0 technologies for cost reduction, flexibility, and innovation, while policymakers should support digital infrastructure, skills development, and regulatory frameworks to enhance supply chain resilience, sustainability, and competitiveness, fostering long-term growth and economic benefits. This study contributes to the field of supply chain management (SCM) and elaborates on its potential advantages for businesses and industries are which make it significant. Furthermore, this study also provides valuable insights for further research in the field of Industry 4.0 and supply chain management.
