Abstract

The trend of women’s labour force participation rate increasing in Malaysia is significant. As more educated women move from academic to professional settings and help fill employment openings, this demographic shift points to a positive step towards gender inclusion in the workforce. Despite the ongoing global discourse on gender equality and work-life balance, this progressive shift also presents a significant difficulty for female employees, which they need to strike a careful balance between their roles at home and in the workplace. This research aims to investigate the intricate challenges surrounding work-family balance encountered by married women working in the Ministry of Human Resources (MOHR)Malaysia, by analysing the factors influencing work-family balance among them, as well as gathering their perspectives and suggestions regarding the support system they deem necessary for enhancing this balance. Employing a quantitative approach, surveys were utilised as the primary data collection tool, surveying the woman employed in MOHR. The research findings highlighted that the most influential factor contributing to work-family balance was the presence of initiatives and support system needed, followed by the work environment and family environment. The study also revealed a negative correlation between spouse cooperation and work-family balance. By addressing this gap in the literature, the research seeks to contribute not only to academic understanding but also to inform policy initiatives, actionable recommendations and shape workplace practices that cultivate a more supportive and equitable environment for female employees in MOHR.
