Abstract
—This project focuses on creating an inexpensive educational apparatus modelling a 3rd generation CT scanner. The prototype uses nonradiative light sources and combines 3D printing, electronics, and construction to visualise the interiors of the see-through phantom. Key components include LED light, an Arduino Nano controller, and a DSLR camera. The detailed design process involved 3D printing, PVC, metalwork for stability, and electronic circuits for control. Despite capturing up to 200 images per scan cycle and successfully reconstructing internal structures for the selected phantom, limitations were identified in the dataset, light source power, and time efficiency. Tests demonstrated the prototype's capacity to produce 3D representation model for the phantom, albeit with constraints due to the light source and dataset limitations. The educational value was further affirmed in a workshop setting, where the prototype's potential to enhance understanding of CT technology was well received by students, achieving 100% understanding from students. Future enhancements aim to improve dataset resolution, incorporate more powerful light sources such as laser diodes, and upgrade the camera system for better image quality and processing speed. These improvements aim to overcome current limitations and expand the prototype's applications in educational setting
