Abstract

Entrepreneurship is seen as an important pillar to elevate a nation to high income society of which Malaysia aspires to achieve hence lots of attention have been tailored to entrepreneurship. Despite many initiatives and resources being channeled to encourage entrepreneurship, uptake among women is still clouded with scarcity underlined by high turnover rate among male counterparts, putting a strain on entrepreneurship ecosystem. Similarly, Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) metric has concluded Malaysian as not an entrepreneurial nation whilst reiterating that women are only enticed by opportunity and not necessity motivated. Therefore, to achieve high income status, women participation in entrepreneurial activities is deemed vital, thus cognitive process should transpire at College and University itself through an effective entrepreneurship education (EE) that is able to instill the entrepreneurial mindset among the students. Similarly, understanding what influences students towards entrepreneurship is vital since intention to become an entrepreneur is the first step in entrepreneurship. Purpose – This research is poised to discover elements that can encourage women participation in entrepreneurship by investigating the predictive value of individual entrepreneurial orientation (IEO) which consist of innovativeness, risk taking propensity, proactiveness, perseverance and entrepreneurial passion on the entrepreneurial intention of female university students in the Malaysian Higher Learning Institutions (HLI). The study also examines the moderating role of entrepreneurship education (EE) on the individual entrepreneurial orientation (IEO) which in turn affects their entrepreneurial intention (EI) towards entrepreneurship. The study is underpinned by Human Capital Entrepreneurship Theory (HCET).
