Abstract

The ongoing globalization is challenged by the constantly increasing worldwide need for capital and consumer products by simultaneously assuring sustainable development in human life's social, environmental, and economic aspects. The generation of industrial value must be focused on sustainability to meet this challenge. In this regard, Industry 4.0 can support the complexity of the production method found in the recent industrialization to achieve sustainable development. However, limited research is done on exploring the expected contribution of Industry 4.0 for sustainable performance, particularly in the emerging market settings, such as Malaysia. Purpose – While Industry 4.0 has lately drawn considerable attention, relatively few studies of its impact on three sustainability aspects (economic, environmental and social) are accessible. Therefore, this study proposes a framework, including the core critical success factors influencing Industry 4.0 and leading to sustainable performance.
