Abstract

This thesis studies the effects of chromatic dispersion for long haul WDM transmission. An optical network simulation tool is used for the modelling of a 4-channel WDM system for a 300km and 600km distance. Various models were simulated with two prominent chromatic dispersion compensators in place. Through there are many types of attenuation phenomena encountered by an optical link, this thesis only analyses the chromatic dispersion.
