Abstract

Heterogeneous Networks (HetNets) are used to enhance the Spectral Efficiency (SE) and signal quality in Long Term Evolution (LTE) communication system. Meanwhile, network engineers are trying to expand the network capacity by extending the coverage to indoor facilities through deploying femtocells. However, interference along with channel response issues arise due to arbitrarily deploying the femtocells. This paper proposes a Distributed Indoor Femtocell System (DIFS) in uniformly distributed femtocell environment to compensate the path-loss in between base stations and the users by selecting the users with the best signal quality to become relay nodes. Relay users act as signal boosters to non-relay users which enhance the signal quality of other users. The proposed system reduces the outage probability by a maximum of 40%, enhances the overall network fairness, and improves the user throughput rates by a minimum of 3 Mbps and a maximum of about 12 Mbps in 2.6 GHz frequency bands.
