Abstract

Coverage maximization is an important issue in wireless sensor networks (WSN). The coverage maximization can be achieved by repositioning the sensor nodes after their random deployment. Metaheuristics algorithms had been popular choice in tackling this problem. In this work, pure gravitational search algorithm (PureGSA) which is a variant of gravitational search algorithm (GSA) is used for WSN coverage maximization. The force calculation of GSA is amended in PureGSA so that Newton's law of gravity is properly obeyed and the initial gravitational constant is adjusted to avoid premature convergence. The results from five different size of WSN found that PureGSA is able to maximize the coverage and achieve better solution than GSA.
