Abstract

In this study, the characteristic of two main grounding systems under fast transient at both impulse polarity and one other as remote earth have been studied. These grounding systems are installed within the area of Multimedia University, Cyberjaya campus. The three grounding systems installed for this study are namely: single, ring and grid rod-bed. From the field experiment, the earth resistances of all three grounding systems were measured under steady-state and impulse condition for comparison. It was observed that higher degree of reduction in earth resistance values for single rod than the grid, which shows that ionisation process is likely to occur in smaller size grounding systems, which has high RDC. Impulse polarity effect was also found to affect mostly the single rod. Less polarity effect was observed for the large grid grounding system.
