Abstract

The act of documenting cultural heritage (CH) artefacts is considered as one of the most important aspect in conservation. It allows the curators, researchers and various CH communities to capture and record vital information about the tangible and intangible aspect of the CH artefacts. With the aid of digital technologies, the practice of capturing the visual representation of the CH artefacts are more accurate. Assisting technologies such as digital text recognistion, image capturing, audio recording, and audio visual recording allows the process of capturing each tangible and non-tangible aspect of the CH artefacts to be more precise and accurate. Today, with the advancement of 3-dimensional (3D) scanning technology, the ability for the curators, researchers and CH communities to record and capture visual representation of CH artefacts are no longer confined in 2-dimensional (2D) view. In addition, by having the ability to capture full digital 3D representation of CH artefact, it also exposes new set of information that can be documented especially regarding the 3D data. As Malaysia is known for its multicultural population, the utilisation of the 3D digitisation and digital documentation would further benefit local CH community for conserving various types of CH artefacts that are either excavated or in a verge of fading. The purpose of this study is to design digital documentation framework for 3D digitised TMCHA using 3D digitised Orang Asli artefact as a case study.
