Abstract

High efficiency semitransparent OSCs with good colour perception and good colour rendering properties, suitable for windows application, were designed and developed using blade coating technique. Blade coating can save up to 95% material compared to the conventional spin coating method. In addition to that, blade coating offers easy scalability to large area, high film uniformity and high throughput due to its roll-to-roll potential. Semitransparent PBDTTT-EFT:PC 71 BM achieved a PCE of 5.6% (opaque PCE = 9.4%) . Based on the CIE 1931 chromaticity diagram, semitransparent PBDTTTEFT:PC 71 BM demonstrated good colour perception close to white transparency and good colour rendering with a colour rendering index (CRI) of 87.1. Since most applications require higher voltages than the typical OSCs’ voltage of around 0.5 V, this thesis also investigated the upscaling to medium area device with active area of 10.8 cm, which served as an intermedia investigation before scaling up to large area device with an active area of 216 cm2.
