Abstract

Heterogeneous cellular networks have emerged as part of Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems, where radio resource management (RRM) is the key challenge. However, recent RRM advances have mainly focused on interference mitigation while radio resource utilisation, fairness, complexity, quality of service (QoS) and energy efficiency are not well considered. The objective of this thesis to develop new RRM schemes that address all the aspects. This thesis begins with a literature review and introduction to network modelling, followed by the RRM investigation of LTE-based heterogeneous cellular networks.
