Kho, Desmond Teck Kiang (2013) Improved genetic Particle Swarm Optimisation multiuser detector for Multi-Carrier Code Division Multiple Access. Masters thesis, Multimedia University. Full text not available from this repository.Abstract
Multi-Carrier Code Division Multiple Access (MC-CDMA) that combined Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) with Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) is one of the famous multiple access schemes in telecommunication system. MC-CDMA suffers from limitation of capacity due to Multiple Access Interference (MAI). In this thesis, several conventional Multiuser Detector (MUD) strategies are applied in the MC-CDMA communication system in order to increase its capacity. A Particle Swarm Optimisation (PSO)-based MUD, namely Improved Genetic PSO (IGPSO) MUD is proposed in this thesis. Three improvement methodologies have been done on the existing PSO-based MUD. IGPSO MUD is improved from the existing PSO-based MUD, with additional of genetic operators and preferential function, as well as better selection of inertia weight and better population initialization approach. Thus, two parameters of PSO, namely neighbourhood and inertia weight, have been tuned and configured in a better way.
