Abstract

The objective of this study is to measure and determine the impact of E-commerce (EC) on productivity and employment by analyzing and calculating interrelated issues on Iranian manufacturing Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). This study includes five separate models. The productivity models are based on both econometrics and the growth accounting approach to fill these models’ gaps. Firstly, this research fulfills the gap of growth accounting by transforming the model to parametric model and providing statistical analysis. Secondly, it closes the gap of econometric estimation of the Cobb-Douglas production function by calculating productivity indicators. Moreover, this research applies Extensive Growth Theory, which is based on the expansion of the quantity of inputs in order to increase the quantity of outputs for the first model; and Intensive Growth Theory expressed as growth in output per worker and capital for the rest of the models. However, concerning the effect of EC on employment, this study uses a cost minimization approach.
