Abstract

Thresholding is an important image processing technique that is often used for image segmentation. It is a mature research topic and numerous methods have been proposed over the last few decades for both bi-level and multilevel thresholding. But automatic determination of the appropriate number of thresholds and, at the same time, determining corresponding optimal threshold values is still an open problem. This research addresses this problem and proposes an automatic multilevel thresholding method based on particle swarm optimization.
