Abstract
Swimming pool surveillance system plays an essential role in safeguarding premises. In order to deploy the monitoring system, human detection is required coupled with several image processing techniques. In this paper, an off-time swimming pool surveillance using thermal imaging system is proposed to enhance the security of the surrounding area. Two sub-algorithms are developed to detect any human outside the swimming pool are able to be discovered and differentiated by the surveillance system. Meanwhile, the algorithm is capable of detecting not only human movements in different directions, but also water activities in the swimming pool, such as swimming, water-splashing and others. Human height and width are the main criteria in monitoring the system outside the pool whereas the important characteristic used to observe for many intruder inside the pool is the dimension of human head shape. The water activity detection utilises the difference of black colour pixels between successive has an acuurancy of 95.58% for region outside the pool and 92.44% inside the pool.
