Abstract

Instructional designers (IDs) who work with subject matter experts (SMEs) often find they inherit difficulties in term of interaction. While working on developing the e-learning storyboard content, these two groups play important roles in serving a community of learners. This article reports on a study conducted with three practising IDs in industry to ascertain the challenges in storyboarding for online course development. This article is intended to determine the task difficulties associate with cognitive demands that lead to inefficiency in human performance. The results of the study provide recommendations in overcoming the difficulties of the ID task using an e-learning storyboard.
