Abstract
This paper presents and discusses the test results of an impulse test circuit used for field testing under various conditions, such as the grounding systems, resistive test loads, and the impulse generator’s rating. The results ascertain that different conditions affect the test results. Although the magnitudes of voltage and current, and hence impulse impedance of a linear resistive load, are close, differences in current discharge times and the magnitude of initial oscillations on the voltage and current traces are affected by the grounding systems, resistive load, and impulse generator’s rating. These variations underscore the importance of selecting appropriate testing parameters to ensure accurate and reliable results in impulse testing applications.
