Abstract

This paper examines the relationship between ethics-based decision-making, Islamic identity, and technology adoption among Malaysian Muslim youth. It investigates how Islamic ethics shape online ethical behavior and the mediating role of Islamic identity in digital decision-making. A quantitative approach was adopted, using a structured questionnaire completed by 244 technologically engaged Muslim youth. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was employed to analyze the relationships among Islamic ethics, online engagement, Islamic values, Islamic identity, and ethical decision-making. Results indicate that Islamic identity positively influences ethical decision-making online. Islamic trust and online interaction strongly predict Islamic identity, while Islamic values have a smaller but direct effect. The study emphasizes integrating Islamic ethics into digital literacy programs to foster safe online environments where youth can engage with technology without violating religious principles. Future research should identify specific Islamic values that affect ethical behavior and examine the long-term impact of technology use on Islamic identity and moral judgment.
