Abstract

Fintech & Islamic finance convergence between financial technology (fintech) and Islamic finance is a game-changer that Malaysia can leverage to consolidate its role as an international centre of excellence in offering Shariah-compliant financial solutions. This study provides an overall view of the new trend of Islamic Fintech and Digital banking, how it is transforming products, services, and business models upon Shariah principles in Malaysia. Through examining leading trends, including digital takaful platforms, Shariah-compliant peer-to-peer (P2P) financing, robo-advisors, and blockchain-based halal investment offerings, this paper shows how Islamic fintech promotes financial inclusion by increasing access to finance and the penetration of insurance coverage. The paper also examines the influence of regulators, such as Bank Negara Malaysia’s Islamic Financial Services Act and its Shariah Governance Framework, in fostering innovation and governance. Critical issues, including consumer confidence, scalability, and the requirement of online ethical Shariah assurance systems, are also debated alongside opportunities for Islamic banks to work with start-ups and fintech providers. Finally, this study posits that Shariah-compliant fintech not only works alongside digital disruption but is well poised to provide for inclusive, fair, and morally based financial provision in domestic and global Muslim markets.
