Abstract
Empowering women entrepreneurs with financial literacy (FL) skills is crucial to address the unique challenges they face in their business journeys. This paper illustrate the determination of the module content for a one-day financial literacy workshop that addresses specific needs of women entrepreneurs. Drawing from a comprehensive literature review spanning from 2010 to 2022, the research identifies topics covered in numerous FL modules, uncovering certain overlapping topics that probably have obscured important knowledge that must be imparted to the target group. This highlights the need for a more structured approach in determining and finalizing the content given the limited time that the target group has for attending the training. To address this, a meta-analysis is undertaken to conceptualize FL content areas, followed by a detailed content analysis to identify critical topics. Huston’s (2010) framework, known for its parsimony and the OECD/INFE (2018) FL framework are considered to create a comprehensive map of essential knowledge areas. Subsequently, Focus Group Discussions (FGD) are held to match the mapped knowledge area with the real day to day skill needs of participating women entrepreneurs. This ensures the relevance and applicability of the FL training for this target group. The resulting FL module is the outcome of this structured approach that can be expected to equip women entrepreneurs with the skills to manage their finances effectively thus sustainable business growth. This structured content determination signifies the need for a robust yet standardized method to put together a training module based on specific needs of the target group or audience. ©
