Abstract
In this research, an IoT-based generator set monitoring system has been proposed for offshore application. Offshore platform is a structured platform which located in bodies of water, mainly used for extracting pure oil and gases. As the platform is located far from the electricity compliances such as electrical grid, which is used in land. Therefore, the offshore platform mainly relies on the generator set (genset) as their main source of energy. However, due to the harsh conditions of marine environments, exposed to extreme weather, high humidity, and corrosive salt-water, the monitoring system for genset in offshore applications must be capable of withstanding the extreme condition. Therefore, this project aims to propose an IoT-based genset monitoring system for offshore application with reliable and efficient operation. Based on the literature review on the IoT-based monitoring system, InfluxDB and Grafana integration are mostly used for data management and data visualization. While for the data acquisition device, most researchers use Arduino due to low costing. However, Arduino is not suitable for extreme conditions, thus not reliable to be used despite its low costing benefits. As a result, a proposed system integrating NavigateWorx NR300 4G VPN router connected with Gensys Compact Prime and Grafana with InfluxDB have fulfilled the requirements to conduct efficient monitoring system for the genset on the offshore environments. Hence, this study can benefit the automation industry especially for genset suppliers and genset consumers by providing a simple monitoring system to enhance genset maintenance.
