Abstract

Large classes in government or private schools typically consist of 30 to 40 or more students. Individual attention from teachers is limited. One of the biggest challenges for students in large classes is student engagement. Teachers are unable to interact and discuss with each student to understand student progress. Since teachers cannot pay close attention to every student, the failure rate in large classes is higher than that in small classes. This has led to a demand for after-school tuition classes. However, to manage tuition classes, there are numerous management challenges, particularly in handling student data. This paper presents the design and development of a mobile application prototype system to manage tuition classes. The proposed system provides a variety of functions to help manage student data including student personal info, attendance, progress, performance and achievement, tuition class information and fees collection, and provides a communication platform for the teachers, parents, and students. Prototype testing was conducted to validate the functionality of the system. The prototype system works well. Future improvements may include expanding learning analysis capabilities, enhancing it with Internet of Things (IoT) features, and supporting multi-language interfaces.
