Abstract

The integration of family-friendly policies (FFPs) within organizational frameworks has garnered increasing attention as a critical factor influencing job satisfaction, especially among married women in the workforce today. This study explores the relationship between FFPs and job satisfaction of married women in the Klang Valley, Malaysia. Specifically, it examines how key independent variables - flexible work arrangements, family care leave policies, general leave policies and childcare benefits and workplace childcare facilities contribute to enhancing job satisfaction in women’s labour participation. Contextualized on Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory, this study shows that the FFP initiatives discussed above are essential for married women to perform in their roles and work towards achieving the job satisfaction needed and prevent from job dissatisfaction. This study adopted a quantitative method, in which data collection was conducted through a questionnaire given to 200 respondents who were married women working in different industries in the Klang Valley. The results indicate that there is a significant positive correlation between flexible work arrangements and the level of job satisfaction. This study emphasizes the important role of FFPs in building a supportive work environment that meets the needs of married women to enhance job satisfaction in the workforce. Nonetheless, the study also points out the gaps of availability and implementation of these policies in different various industries and organization sizes. Therefore, the findings serve as guidelines for organization leaders, policy makers and human resource practitioners to promote female employee well-being by advocating more comprehensive FFPs to improve job satisfaction and productivity among married women in the workforce.
