Abstract
The computation of electric field on the ground electrodes subjected to high impulse conditions is important which can provide information on the high voltage potentials at the ground electrodes and in the vicinity. Soil parameter has been known to influence the impulse behavior of grounding systems. In this present work, Finite Element Method (FEM) is used to compute the electric field profile of ground electrodes when the soil with large grain size (gravelly soil of high resistivity) is used. The results show that the electric field values at the injected electrode and the horizontal electrode laid within 2.5 m from the injected electrode are dependent on the ground resistance value, RDC. However, at further distances, the electric field values are dependent on the conductivity of the ground at that localised area (away from the injected electrode).
