Abstract
Cooperative spectrum sensing (CSS) in cognitive radio networks offers an effective approach to enhance throughput, spectral efficiency, and energy efficiency. However, increasing the number of secondary users also raises energy consumption, leading to a decrease in energy efficiency. To address this, we propose a novel technique using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for cooperative spectrum sensing to reduce energy consumption while improving throughput and energy efficiency in cognitive radio networks. In this paper, we compare the throughput performance of traditional CSS with UAV-based virtual CSS. Simulation results demonstrate that UAV-based CSS outperforms traditional CSS in terms of throughput. The study also identifies the optimal fusion rule, the ideal number of UAV slots and secondary users, and the optimal detection threshold for improving wireless network performance.
