Abstract

In Malaysia, building and maintaining healthy ageing has become a significant focus given the increasing ageing population as well as longer human life span. It is important to monitor and assess medication adherence behaviour especially among the elderly to improve their health outcomes and to avoid medical non-adherence. As a result, researchers have started investigating technology-driven approaches to enhance medication adherence. However, there is a lack of research regarding the willingness of the elderly to accept and adopt these technologies. Although the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) has been used to forecast technology usage in various studies, its application in the context of elderly individuals’ adoption of medication adherence systems remains relatively unexplored. Consequently, the objective of this study is to assess the factors that influence the elderly’s desire to use a medication adherence system by expanding TAM to include perceived risk, trust, health awareness, perceived behavioural control, attitudes, and subjective norm. Only attitudes and subjective norms have a favourable impact on the elderly's propensity to use a medication adherence system, according to the findings. The study's significant discoveries and proposed recommendations for future will contribute significantly to Malaysia's efforts in promoting and maintaining a thriving elderly population.
