Abstract

Globalization has impacted indigenous cultures time and time again. In this era of globalization and rapidly evolving technologies, the Chinese animation industry is facing profound cultural anxiety in its development and the impact of the rapid development of Japanese and American animation has threatened the very core of its national cultural identity, Chinese animation is in a critical period of national cultural reconstruction and high-tech integration. Chinese animation creators now have an immense task to find ways to reconstruct its traditional national culture and for this, it is absolutely necessary to take the impact of globalization on the seven very important eras of Chinese history as a mirror, study and organize the animation elements in traditional national culture, create more national core oriented original content and build the animation art and culture with lesser or no imitation of foreign cultural elements. This research will analyze the impact of globalization on Chinese national cultural values in China’s animation industry and see the possible shortcomings behind the development of the domestic animation industry. The objectives of this research are focused to identify the impact of globalization on cultural identity in Chinese animation movies through content analysis and case studies. A critical literature review on Chinese animation history and the development of globalization’s effect on cultural identity will be conducted to analyze the artistic value and spiritual core of the animation itself. An empirical analysis using the qualitative observation method of selected animation movies will be adopted with a focus on cultural identity elements. This research aims to investigate the impact of globalization on cultural identity in Chinese animation movies.
