Abstract

Energy harvesting is a process where capturing and converting energy from the surroundings to electricity. The energy harvested could be use immediately or be stored for the future use. Harnessing the small amount of ambient energy could provide a different and alternative ways to generate energy instead it would be wasted. One of the technologies that uses renewable energy as an energy harvester is by using solar panel. The solar energy is harvested using photovoltaic cells which convert the light energy into electricity. Meanwhile, piezoelectric transducer could convertform of kinetic energy such as vibrations or pressure into electrical energy. The conversion would produce an AC current that suitable to store in supercapacitor. In Malaysia, the climate is hot, humid, and rainy throughout the year which indeed is a huge advantage to harvest energy using renewable energy. Malaysia received average 2000 mm - 2500 mm of rain drops per year which contribute up to 80% every year. The daily temperature in Malaysia is 37 degrees Celsius which shown that Malaysia also received enough sunlight to use solar as a new source of energy. However, solar technology cannot be use continuously to harvest energy because it is weather dependency. Thus, SolZo is a product where it could help to utilise the maximum potential of renewable energy regardless of the weather. SolZo is combination of solar and piezoelectric transducer that used the rain drop as a mechanical/kinetic energy and solar energy to generate electricity.
