Abstract

The way the current pandemic and global technology has altered the education industry is relatively new and unexplored in the field of performance management and this warrants our attention for further investigation. The recent pandemic on COVID-19, the different learning platforms and the pressure to be included in the different league tables has altered the views of human resources managers in aligning PMS to the current situation. Performance management is a continuing, collaborative process designed to boost the employee capability and productivity. In this study, we will examine private institutions in Malaysia and how they have been redefining and aligning their performance management system amidst the global uncertainties and technological evolution that has impacted the industry early this year. A case study approach would be taken, whereby a private, semi private and a public university would be taken as a research case Purpose – The objective of the research mainly would have a focus on the following areas: To develop an understanding of the nature of performance management; To investigate the extent to which line managers (or those responsible for appraisal) have the authority and support from senior management; To explore the availability of evidence, and challenges of measuring academic performance; and To establish a perception towards the approaches to performance management, which might be more appropriate in a higher education setting.
