Abstract

Information Communication Technology (ICT) is one of the significant contributors of hazardous issues such as climate change, greenhouse gas - GHG emissions, carbon footprint, global warming, etc. The usage of ICT is increasing rapidly with the advancement of society. In line with this concern, this study aims to isomorphic drivers of institutional pressure and product stewardship towards the adoption propensity of Green ICT in Malaysia. Malaysia was chosen to venture this research work. A total of one hundred and twenty seven (127) ICT-based organizations under the Multimedia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), participated in the survey questionnaire that was constructed on the basis of a five point Likert Scale. A proportionate stratified random probability sampling procedure was used to find out the relationships, perceptions and insightful opinions regarding the three isomorphic drivers of institutional pressure such as coercive, normative and mimetic and the fourth variable of product stewardship towards the adoption propensity (tendency) of green ICT in Malaysia. In this exploratory study, the hypotheses are tested using the Partial Least Square (PLS) analysis. Findings indicate that out of the three isomorphic drivers, only normative pressure has a positive and significant relationship with the adoption propensity of Green ICT among the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) status companies in Malaysia. From this study, it has also been revealed that there is a positive and significant relationship between product stewardship and adoption propensity of Green ICT among the MSC status companies in Malaysia. The results suggest that policymakers should consider the normative pressure among the ICT organizations with due consideration by offering them lucrative incentives in order to enable them to make their organizations green. Moreover, the product stewardship should also be considered by the policymakers for facilitating the adoption propensity of green ICT. Thus, such initiatives will assist the national green technology policy of Malaysia to be materialized successfully.
