Abstract
Elyn Kuan Yie Meng, MMU’s final year student in the Bachelor of Accounting (Honours) programme did our country proud – for scoring the highest marks for the Financial Management paper in the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW) Chartered Accountant qualification, the ACA examinations in December last year. She accepted the first place and the Howitt prize where ICAEW hailed the world’s top-scoring chartered accountancy students as the ‘future of the accounting profession’ in an awards ceremony at Chartered Accountants’ Hall in London on 20 April 2017. Reported by ICAEW, prize-winners came from all over the UK, and two other countries namely Cyprus and Malaysia. Standing tall alongside international high-fliers at the prestigious event, mostly from renowned accounting bodies including PwC, Saffery Champness, Buzzacott, Deloitte, BDO, and EY, our very own Faculty of Business (FOB) grown student leader and outstanding student shared that by being able to study for the ICAEW ACA papers while still studying has given her an opportunity to develop. Thankful for the favourable teaching and learning experience with MMU, optimistic Elyn continuously stated her encouraging words, “we should constantly find ways to unlock our potential and believe in our ability to achieve our goals. Determination and hard-work will always be the key to achieve success. Never give up and never stop trying”. A year earlier, Elyn also achieved the first place in Malaysia for the Audit and Assurance paper (December 2015 examination). She is among the pioneer batch of the Bachelor of Accounting (Honours) students who are enrolled in the ICAEW-TalentCorp Exclusive Pathways. Also celebrating Elyn’s taking the World Prize, is ICAEW Malaysia. This accomplishment reflects the objectives of ICAEW’s partnership with TalentCorp Exclusive Pathways; to develop high-calibre Malaysian students who achieve excellence in finance, accounting and business.” Elyn’s success is testament to the capabilities and commitment of our students. Let us wish more of us continue to make achievements that inspire and serve the professions that make an ever positive impact.
