Abstract

This research is aimed to present the effectiveness of multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) tools in automotive manufacturing companies focusing on the selection of suppliers. The process of selecting suppliers is one of the most critical and challenging endeavour in any supply chain management. There are altogether five decision making tools being analyzed in this study namely analytical hierarchy process (AHP), fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (FAHP), technique for order performance by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS), fuzzy technique for order performance by similarity to ideal solution (FTOPSIS) and fuzzy analytical hierarchy process integrated with fuzzy technique for order performance by similarity to ideal solution (FAHPiFTOPSIS). The study was conducted in Malaysia with participation from numerous automotive manufacturers and suppliers. From the study a new set of supplier selection criteria has been identified. These criteria comprise of nine criteria which are delivery, support service, quality, price, factory capacity and capability, supplier background, flexibility and management tool system.
