Abstract

Retention management has been one of the major concerns of every organisation for the past few decades and organisations have acknowledged that key talents are the core to business success factors. This research was developed with the intention to examine the effects of financial rewards, appreciation and recognition, nature of work, career opportunities and work-life balance have on effective retention management, and more importantly, the moderating effects leadership behaviours and teamwork relationship have between these independent variables and retention management, using Alstom in Malaysia, a multi-national corporation, as a case study. The moderators and independent factors were chosen by the researcher as being most relevant and applicable for this research, based on five years of observation, experience and communication with employees within the company. A structured survey questionnaire was distributed to the employees in the company and 172 responses were obtained. The research also included semi-structured interviews with pre-selected employees from the key talent pool.
