In the modern world, education is no longer viewed as a 'once for all' option in which we complete a number of years of study that fit us for life. Instead we are asked to embrace the concept of life-long learning. The consequences of such a cultural shift are that "what we lean about" is no longer as "learning to learn". Audio-visual material can provide aids for learning when integrated into computer based systems. However, a teaching system is only useful if the learner remains active and motivated. It is well-known that page turning or browsing does not ensure effective learning. To learn, students must want to learn and must be involved and active. Flashy graphics and simulations are not enough; the experience must be authentic and relevant to the learner's life. This paper describes the need for development of game based approach for multimedia based learning systems.
