Abstract

This paper examines how a governance-aware co-design model can turn institutional sustainability intent into scalable, practice-centred learning and assessment in a Southeast Asian Business School. Using a practice-led mixed-methods design, we identify participation drivers and frictions through surveys and focus groups embedded in a short modular intervention. Findings show that time-bounded, hands-on activities, credible lived-experience speakers, blended delivery, and meaningful recognition are decisive for engagement. We synthesise these results into a co-design framework that specifies decision rights for students, staff, and partners; aligns assessment and workload with practice-based tasks; and produces portable artefacts—principles, mapping matrices, and rubrics—that travel across programmes and endure staff turnover. A formative validation step with students and faculty refines the constructs and implementation routines. The study concludes that durable co-design depends less on topic selection than on how authority, recognition, and quality assurance are organised, so engagement becomes routine rather than episodic. Practical implications include embedding engagement indicators and feedback loops into programme review, accreditation, and performance compacts. The contribution is a pragmatic blueprint for institutionalising co-design, so sustainability learning remains legible, auditable, and scalable in resource-constrained contexts.
