Abstract

In this paper, we address the issue of authorship in academic works in the field of humanities and multimedia arts that are evolving in the era of digitalization. We are analyzing existing legal regulations and the practical consequences of long-standing abuses of authorship attribution standards. It concerns the attribution of authorship in works related to visual art and science. Here we identify problems that existed long before the widespread use of artificial intelligence tools, which only increased their scope. We also discuss the phenomenon of attributing creative works to a single author, which often fails to reflect the true, frequently collaborative nature of their creation. The article explores the issue of plagiarism in academic writing and artistic works, the definition of an author and the principles of copyright attribution in the context of the rapid development and growing popularity of Artificial Intelligence tools, as well as the lack of legal regulation and the related abuses. There is an urgent need to reform legal and academic frameworks to ensure greater transparency and integrity in the use of others’ creative output and the attribution of authorship, particularly in the context of academia.
